I explore industrial landscapes that
exist within the more complex and larger natural world. By
observing the subtleties that exist where the natural landscape
and industry meet and through an obsessive examination of
details I challenge what I think I know. My work is optimistic
as it sprawls across the walls in bursts of color, but the dense
re-worked surfaces reveal my laughter at the difficulty of
trying to understand something you don’t know. Working in
industrial landscapes – birds, water and land reclaim the
manufactured landscape. The over-powering strength of the
natural landscape is not what I expected to find. I create
monumental landscapes that the viewer moves through in hopes
that this simulation will allow the viewer to have their own
experience of the contemporary world.
I work directly on the wall to simulate the experience of being
outside in the landscape where there are no edges and no visual
limits. I worry about our movement further and further away from
the landscape and deeper into our technological thingies.
Re-using product packaging I attempt to both connect with the
viewer and utilize the high design and marketing of our fast
paced culture to provide the viewer a moment of their own.
